Flexible Grouping Options

Flexible grouping is a teaching strategy used in differentiated classrooms. Teachers informally group and regroup students in a variety of ways throughout the day for different purposes and goals.

Some flexible grouping options include :

  • mixed-ability groups
  • ability groups
  • random groups
  • collaborative groups
  • interest groups
  • skill/strategy groups
  • paired learning

Flexible grouping may differ depending upon students prior knowledge, learning style, interests, strengths and talents.
