"No Hands Up"

Raising hands is not necessarily a good strategy to encourage because it allows some students to opt out of the thinking process. At times you can use the "No Hands Up" technique. Tell your students to keep their hands down and you will pick pupils to respond. When linked with more "wait time" you will find greater student engagement and more thoughtful responses.
