AUTHENTIC CONTEXTS

Projects presented on Literacy Today have been designed by innovative teachers from around Québec. Each project contains a balance of visual, print and media literacy and should appeal to different types of learners and can be adapted to different student needs.

All of the competencies in our ELA programs are integrated and work together in synergy. An authentic example of how to translate this idea into classroom practice is presented here. This project incorporates reading to make meaning, and immersion into texts as models for production, and to form the foundation for discussion and inquiry. Students work individually and in groups to plan, develop and produce their texts.

To complete this project:

  • Students met as book clubs to discuss their ideas about the books they read.

  • Students used a production process to draft, edit and revise their articles.

  • Students had the option of writing a response to the film.
